While on assignment for Greenwood Guides in Southern Africa in 2006, Tina began working on the series entitled Grappling with the contents of Southern Africa. Boldly referencing the natural elements of earth, water, wind and fire, this series evokes a powerful and compelling picture of the continent and tells the tale of a very personal and startling journey of discovery. From the shanty towns of Kyalitsha to the dusty tracks of Kwazulu Natal there is a delicate lyricism to the documentary narrative and a constant and very real connection with the red earth of Southern Africa.
White Nights is part of an ongoing social-documentary series based in Ibiza, where Tina returns each year. Through intimate portraits and studies of social behaviour she explores themes of sexuality, escapism and hedonism, qualities affiliated with the Spanish island known for its all-night parties. Thousands gather each year on recreational grounds bound by the music and club scenes. Along the packed beaches lounging sun-worshippers are entertained by the hordes of perfectly-toned club promoters and performers, creating a fascinating fusion of people who come to watch and be watched. Tina captures the infectious spirit and sense of freedom pervading the island with a beauty and intimacy that suggests she is as much an accepted subject within the carnival as she is one of its spectators.
