Sophie Newnham had been painting professionally for the last 7 years with clients reaching as far as America and The Arab Emirates. Sophie specialises in botanical art with an emphasis on the form of the object. Some would call Sophie's work "flower portraiture" as she tends to paint a single head in oil, each bud or petal has a bold and dramatic use of colour and light to create an almost real like state. Her backgrounds are usually of one colour which creates an intensity to the flower.
“Colours begin to blend and melt into each other and seemingly abstract patches of paint become three dimensional, giving life to a fold in a petal or the deep vein of a leaf.”
Using a mixture of photographic images and painting from life, Sophie spends weeks at a time on her paintings, often working on multiple canvases.
