Fine Art Photographer Catherine Dwyer Harvey

Cate has always been intrigued by Hollywood Cinema and the Pin-Up, her artworks are concerned with the notions of character and stereotype. Influenced by the Cult of Celebrity,  and the representation of the female body, Cate takes a contemporary and transform them into characters from Cinematic and Pin-Up history, documenting them in their various guises and situations. The personal rapport Cate builds with her models is important in making the characters believable, and the transformations made through wigs, costume and make up can be striking.

" Often I like my work to have a narrative quality, producing images that exist in their own right, as well as achieving a modern day commentary on social and preconceived ideas. My wig and costume collection is vast and grows every day, and I am always contemplating new characters and themes to explore. I often find myself writing in my spare time, influenced by anything around me; a dark building can hide a sinister secret, a grassy bank, a witness to a lovers tryst. "

In her latest series Cate have taken to recreating the Pin-Up, exploring themes of sexual power and control and challenging the Pin-Ups traditional perception of the objectified woman. Cate's works have a celebrated sense of nostalgia, she takes great pride in drawing out emotions and hinting at truths through her photographs.

Cate will be exhibiting at Adorn London from the 1st September to the 27th September 2008.
